Payouts are standard casino rates. True odds = mathematically fair payout. The difference between true odds and casino payout is the house edge. Tap a row for details.

The short answer

Craps has more than 20 distinct bets, each with its own payout and house edge. The calculator above covers all of them β€” from the 1.36% edge on Don't Pass to the 16.67% edge on Any 7. Enter your wager, pick a bet type, and see exactly what it pays, what it should pay at true odds, and how much the casino keeps.

How to use the calculator

  1. Enter your wager β€” how much you're betting on a single bet.
  2. Filter by category β€” narrow down to Fundamental, Place, Buy, Hardway, One-Roll, or Proposition bets. Or view all at once.
  3. Read the table β€” each row shows the bet name, what it pays, your total return, profit, and house edge. Green-shaded rows are the best bets; red-shaded are the worst.
  4. Tap any row β€” expands a detail panel showing the bet description, true odds vs casino odds, and your exact profit.

How craps payouts work

Every craps bet has two numbers: the true odds and the casino payout. The true odds reflect the actual probability of winning β€” they're what a fair game would pay. The casino payout is always slightly less than true odds, and the difference is the house edge.

For example, Place 6 has true odds of 6:5 (there are 5 ways to roll a 7 vs 6 ways to roll a 6). A fair payout would be $6 for every $5 wagered. Instead, the casino pays 7:6 β€” slightly less than 6:5 when you work out the math β€” giving the house a 1.52% edge. That's still one of the better bets on the table.

The best and worst bets

The calculator makes this visible at a glance through color coding, but here's the summary:

Best bets (green, ≀1.52% edge):

  • Pass Line / Come: 1.41%
  • Don't Pass / Don't Come: 1.36%
  • Place 6 / Place 8: 1.52%

Decent bets (yellow, ≀4%):

  • Place 5 / Place 9: 4.0%
  • Field (3x on 12 variant): 2.78%

Expensive bets (orange/red, 5%+):

  • Place 4 / Place 10: 6.67%
  • Buy bets: 4.76%
  • Hardways: 9.09%–11.11%
  • Any 7: 16.67% β€” the single worst bet on the table

What about odds bets (free odds)?

The odds bet (also called "free odds" or "taking odds") is unique in the casino β€” it has zero house edge. You place it behind your Pass/Don't Pass bet after a point is set, and it pays at true odds. The calculator doesn't include it separately because there's nothing to calculate: the edge is 0%. The only limit is the table's maximum odds multiple (usually 3x-4x-5x or 10x).

Adding odds behind your Pass Line bet is the single most effective way to reduce your overall cost. A Pass Line bet with 3x-4x-5x odds brings the combined house edge down to about 0.37%. Our understanding house edge lesson covers this math in detail.

Can you win at craps long-term?

No. Every bet except the free odds bet carries a house edge. Over enough rolls, the math guarantees the casino wins. What the calculator shows is which bets cost the least. Sticking to Pass/Don't Pass with maximum odds is the lowest-cost way to play, but it's still a cost.

Craps is a game of entertainment, not investment. Set a budget, play the low-edge bets, and treat the expensive prop bets as what they are β€” a fun gamble with a steep price tag. For a myth-busting take on systems that claim to beat the edge, see our craps betting systems guide.
